The jaws are joined by the self-centering mechanism so that moving one, all move simultaneously. It improves the placement of the puller although the piece wich will be pulled is in an unsuitable position.
It is a very safety device because the jaws can not be opened more than the recommended opening. When the puller is opened too much the workpiece could escape or the puller could be broken.
